Starter / alternator parts for Audi
An electric starter is a device in which electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy. Simply put, it is an electric motor that drives the internal combustion engine of a car. The rotation of the starter is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. The main parts of the starter are the stator, rotor, commutator block, traction relay, and gearbox with bendix. All the filling is placed in a cylindrical steel body. Typical starter malfunctions include: wear of graphite brushes; welding of traction relay contacts; wear of rotor bushings; winding breakdown; and mechanical wear of the bendix. The starter is installed on the power unit (on the engine or gearbox) near the flywheel. An alternator is a device that generates electricity through the conversion of rotational energy. In principle, it is a classic electric machine. The unit generates electrical energy by receiving rotation through pulleys and a drive belt from the crankshaft of a vehicle engine. While the engine is running, the device powers on-board electrical consumers and charges the battery. It has a cast aluminum alloy body. The main parts of the alternator are the voltage regulator, rotor, brush block, stator, and diode bridge. The alternator is installed on the vehicle’s power unit as an attachment. Typical causes of problems with the alternator are: loosening of the drive belt; wear of the graphite brushes; destruction of the winding dielectrics; and wear of the rotor support bearings. More
